El Calafate is a tourist town and prices across the whole city reflect that. That said, our main courses include a side dish rather than charging for it separately. The Lamb Experience brings lamb empanadas, braised lamb and smoked lamb, and the Steak BBQ is for two people with a spread of cuts, two empanadas and a side: it works out better than two individual plates.
Sides ordered on their own, such as the fries, are generous portions meant for two or three people to share. There is also a half portion, which is the sensible choice if you are eating alone.
It is a grill restaurant operating inside America del Sur Hostel, with its own kitchen, menu and team. It is neither a hostel buffet nor a guests-only service.
You can eat here without staying, and most of our guests sleep elsewhere. What is true is that the atmosphere is that of a hostel: travellers, music and a fire pit. For most people that is the best part and the reason they return. If you are after a formal, quiet dining room, this is not it.
We cook over fire and to order, for an unhurried meal with the lake in front of you. If you have an early excursion or a tight schedule, tell us when you sit down and we will organise the order so you leave on time.
Message us on WhatsApp before you come to confirm which payment methods are working. Anywhere in El Calafate it is worth carrying some Argentine pesos in cash as a backup, since card terminals depend on a connection that is not always stable this far south.
Yes. The grilled vegetables are the same grill without meat, served with a side. There are also veggie empanadas, pasta with meat-free sauces, pizza, grilled provolone, salads, soups and a veggie sandwich.

Several nights, especially in season. There is no fixed schedule: it depends on which musicians are in town. Message us on WhatsApp the same day and we will tell you if anyone is playing.

Puerto Deseado 153, El Calafate, inside America del Sur Hostel, on the hill above town. About ten minutes on foot from Avenida del Libertador, uphill, and any taxi knows the hostel. There is no sign on the street: look for the hostel. You come in through reception and the dining room is at the back, with the windows over the lake. If you are coming at sunset, ask for a window table when you book.

Yes, we run asado and fugazzeta workshops. They are arranged over WhatsApp depending on the day and the number of people, so it is worth writing in advance, above all if you are coming as a group.
